Marans

Marans are a French chicken breed, named after their town of origin, Marans, where they were first bred in the middle of the 19th century. The hens are curious, but usually keep their distance. The imposing roosters are characterized by a strong character and reliably lead the chicken troop. The Marans cock reaches a weight of around 4 kg, while the hen reaches a weight of 3-3.5 kg.

Important characteristics of this chicken breed are the feathered legs and the dark brown eggs. Marans are also characterized by an excellent laying performance of around 180 eggs per year and also have a very good meat yield, which makes them the ideal dual-purpose breed. The eggs of these hens have a minimum hatching weight of 65 grams.
